RK 3

Alright – finally got a little time to bang this out.

This was the 3rd edition of this great event.

Things started out with the Home Course in duPONT(said with a harsh American accent) Worshinton.  This is the second year at Home course, and the matchups brought 2 Homers Vets vs 2 Homers Virgins in each.  7424 yards of manliness – Thank god that this was the nicest day.

Homers

Match 44 – Crane/Wolf over Ram/Mole. Team R/M got off to a hot start. Most notable Mole with 2 straight feathers to start off his RK.  Combined 856 yards of par 4’s – 6 strokes, no biggie. C/W found themselves 5 down after 3 and again after 6.  Quick couple on 8, 9 and 11 grabbed them their first lead. From there they only lost 1 point on 13 to back to square and then rattled off 6 in the last 5 holes.

Match 45 – Hound/Owl over Harry/Eel.  First 5 holes produced 5 2 pointers.  H/O had 3 of them to take the 2 up lead.  That would be tie their smallest lead the rest of the way.   Big 2 point holes on 11 and 17 were the clinchers for these 2 Homers Virgins, joining the other Homers virgins with matching 6 up wins.  Nice RK debut for Owl who tied Ram for lowest score 78.

Team 1 beat Team 2 -8 to -1 in the AX

Owl leader – Eel INMATE

Couple cold Bronsons, some maltbies, big brentball toss and a Huge coin flip after the round.  Coin flip was between Mole and Ram to see who had to drive to Portland after they tied for highest net in White Lightning.  Poor Ram called heads as the American Quarter landed tails.

After an expensive night for some and an EARLY wakeup call – we were off to Pumpkin Ridge.  We had Harry/Wolf up against Eel/Mole and Ram/Hound up against Crane/Owl.

After a quick Rons stop we arrived at Pumpkin shortly before our tee time.  When we approached the pro-shop our hearts sank.  PUNCHED FUCKIN GREENS.  The real shame is that the greens are so damn money there.  Not to mention it was WET out.  Ah well – show must go on.

Pumpkiners

Match 46 – Hound/Ram over Crane/Owl.  First 6 holes ended all square. That’s when R/H took their first lead.  They never gave it up from there. Building up to as much as 6 after 14 – O/C got 3 in the next 2 to put a bit of scare into the leaders – but that was too little too late.  5 up lead in the end.

Match 47 – Wolf/Harry over Eel/Mole.   7 putts in the first 7 holes.   I REPEAT 7 PUTTS IN THE FIRST 7 HOLES.  on those greens.  Yes – Harry couldn’t miss.  The first hole was a 1-putt double and the 3rd hole was a 1 putt bogey from 35 feet but I mean cmaaaaaaaaan. Despite the putting display – the match was A/S.  This is when W/H made their move.  2 on 8, Batch on 9, 2 on 10 – and they were a quick 7 up.  Will they pave it.  mmmmm – NOPE NOPE NOPE.  Got it to 9 and coasted from there.

Team 2 won the AX -1 to +3.

Hound leader – Mole – INMATE

After 2 rounds we had 2 2-0 teams (wolf/Hound) 4 1-1’s and 2 0-2’s (mole/Eel) with Mole taking the INMATE from Eel.

Big Brent at Pumpkin brought the 2 leaders together. Hound/Wolf were gonna take on Ram/Mole.  Eel/Owl vs Crane/Harry.  Nice little drive to Porters. Quick stop for gads where we met a HUGE cubs fan.  Great lunch – awesome shower and we were ready to rock for our 2nd 18.

Can the leaders distance themselves from the field?  Can Mole and Eel get their first RK3 dub??

Porters

Match 48 – Harry/Crane over Eel/Owl.  This was a TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT one throughout.  Biggest lead of the day was 3, and it was on 18.  After 9 – on the strength of Eel’s nice play, E/O found themselves 2 up.  A couple jab back and forth and a big feath by Crane on 14 and we were A/S.  Another GIANT feather on 17 on a very difficult par 3 by Crane got them 2 up and then a couple pars on 18 clinched the Dub to get both Harry and Crane to 2-1 on RK and keep themselves in contention.

Match 49 – Hound/Wolf over Ram/Mole.  Hound started with a statement!  Driver 6 iron to 6 feet….FEATHER!  H/W were off and running.   Few stuff Grey-Connells, some cold bronsons, and many smokes were this teams recipe.  Will they overdue it tho??  After building a 5 up lead after 9 – they were vibing pretty well.  Got it all the way up to 7 with 5 to go.  Surely it was over.  Nope.  Massive feather putt on 14 , followed by Mole yelling the new catch phrase of RK.  (SPAAAAAARE A LITTTLE CHANGE)  5 up now.  With Hound losing his ball on 15 – it was up to Wolf not to make BATCH.  He limped his way to having 5 foot bog putt on the tough dogleg par 5. Thump Thump – made it.  Now we can wipe our brow. Lead stayed 5 and would’ve been 2.   They were able to hole on from there.

Team 1 won the AX -5 to -2.

Hound Leader – Mole INMATE

Hound and Wolf were now 3-0 .  Crane/Harry 2-1. Ram/Owl 1-2, Eel/Mole 0-3.

The next toss was brought to you by Joshua at the Hilton Bar.  This was a big one. Crane was switching out for Jav.  One by one the names were pulled from the highball glass.  When it got down to the final 2 – laughter ensued.  Yup – The MOLEJAVEY desert was reunited.  Harry/Hound vs Owl/Ram.  Eel/Wolf vs Mole/Jav.

Pretty tame night for our second night in Portland.   Long drive to Seattle in the morning.  Crane dropoff/Jav pickup  on Lake Union and we were ready to go at Seatters.

Seatters

Match 50 – Owl/Ram over Harry/Hound.  Quick 2 by O/R on the 1st and they were off and running.  Built their lead up to 6 after 8.  H/H got 1 on 9 and 2 on 10 to get to 3.  R/O both dumped it in the water on 11 but made HUGE up and downs for bogeys to keep the lead at 3.  That was the turning point for sure, as it never got closer.  In the end – They won 10 up.  Ram very impressive 74.  Harry impressive 5 feathers in 1 round – ended with a 76.  Still great scores at that very tough track

Match 51 – Wolf/Eel over Mole/Jav.    I would have to say this was the most trying history match of all time for the Wolf.  So much at stake for both squads.  Majors, INMATES, redemption, you name it.  It didn’t help that the round took 5 hours —- IN CARTS!!!!  hahaha. The first 7 holes included a few whirlys from our newcomer Jav – it also meant the match was tied.  After Eel/Wolf dumped their tee balls in the 8th lake – they found themselves 3 down.  Eel/Wolf did the same thing as Owl/Ram on 11 – dunked 2 in the water and then made GIANT up and down bogey saves.  After 13 they found themselves still 3 down.  This is when the MoleJavey Desert may have finally met their ultimate demise.  4 BATCHES in the last 5 holes – meant that Eel/Wolf has won 6 up.

RIP MOLEJAVEY.

Group 1 won the AX -5 to +5 (10SHOT)

Wolf – Leader, Mole – INMATE.

Off to the 19th. Vibe was high.  Time for the all important last toss.  Down to Hound and Wolf for the title. Emily the waitress did this one.  Can the Wolf get Hound and clinch it?!?!?!  It was close but nope.  Ram/Jav vs Eel/Harry.  Mole/Wolf vs Owl/Hound.

A very late night at the Whisky Bar and Warwick Hotel.  Up and Atter early for our round at Sudden Valley.

There was one big question mark.  Owl had pulled something in his stomach on the 17th at Seattle.  When we got to the course it was completely clear that he could not swing even CLOSE to 100%.   Ax’s swing speed was faster.   It was decided that Hound and Wolf would play match play for the RK title.  If Hound won – his gross score would be quite a bit better than Wolf, so Hound would take title.  If we tied – Wolf would win title.  If Wolf won – he obviously would win.

Suddeners

Match 52 – Harry/Eel over Ram/Jav.  Will keep this one short.  3 opening feathers by Harry on 1/2 and Eel on 2.  MMMMMMMMM BOP BOP BOP.  We had our first and only PL of RK.  In the end – we had a 14 up victory for H/E

MATCH PLAY MATCH FOR RK TITLE.

2 animals that are majorless.  2 animals that love to wear visors.  2 animals that like to have a little fun on the course. LETS GET IT ON.

Bronsons were flowing.  Maltbies were LIT. Tunes were playing. Dancing shoes were on.

Hound won the first.  Wolf the next 3.  Next 2 were halved.  Hound won 8, Wolf won 9.  3 up lead for Wolf. Hound won 10.  Wolf won 11 – then Hound made back to back feather on 12 and 13. 14 halved.  Then Hound won 15,16,17 to win 2 and 1.  The play wasn’t great. That did not prevent it from being a match for the ages.  Thanks to both Owl and Mole for being great parties/carties/witnesses.

So Hound adds his name to the prestigious list of Major Winners.  While Wolf is still Sergio. Maybe one day.

Final RK Standings:

Champ – Hound 3-1 (with MP win)

2. Wolf – 4-0 (with MP loss

3. Harry – 3-2

4. Owl 2-2

5. Ram 2-3

6. Eel 2-3

7. Cranelina or JavaCrane 2-3

INMATE. Mole 0-4

So after all that – Hound now holds 4 game lead for 1st over Owl.  Wolf Moved up to a T3 with Eag – 5 back of Hound.
