2018 Final Stat Report + Recap

Goooooooood morning kingdom.

Its been almost a year since my last ‘CAP and STAT report.  So we have A LOT to get to.

We have now completed our 8th year of history play, and just like a fine wine (insert a good one here Tort/Hammer) History keeps getting better and better with age.  2018 saw 228 matches which was our second highest total ever.  We had 4 exciting close MAJORS, another close CK,  and a historical competition held at our very own VEEJ.

The year started off with Bobcat putting a BOWcat on a legendary 2017 which included 2 new history lows….63 followed by an even DEEPER Dash 61, his first club championship/history MAJ and captaining a winning CK team.  So it was very fitting that he was our 2017 CTMC Champ.  He was able to best Mole, Pand and Hound in a very fan friendly fun finale.

Our next MAJ was RK5.  This was our closest ever.  Heading into the final round (SEATTERS) it came down to Ram and Prince. Prince was 4-0, while Ram was 3-1. Ram/Crane had to defeat Prince/Hound as well as Ram had to make up a 5 stroke deficit.  With RC pulling away in the hist match late in the round – it was going to come down to gross tiebreaker. Ram was up 3 in the round on 18 and when he just missed his eagle putt, prince had to get up and down from just off the green for par.  It wasn’t a long or tricky chip, but given the circumstances, it was far from a SURE THING.  Prince hit a great chip that almost went in and was able to clean up the par to win his second career MAJ.

Our next MAJ was up-island at the infamous Nanners.  This was also a very close battle.  Eag/Prince were tied for the lead heading into the final round, with Fawn/Eel only 2 strokes back.  This is where Eags Nanners prowess kicked in.  Level par 72 (which tied the lowest score of the day in the field) helped him pull away and win his 4th straight LEVEL and 6th overall MAJOR.

The last 2018 (calendar) MAJ was our Club Championship. We had 3 of our animals compete HARD for the medalist in the qualifier.  Eel was able to come out on top over both Bobcat and Yorkie.  (all 3 were dash)  In the match play – all 3 made the semis. York was able to exert some 2017 revenge and knock off Bob – despite Bobbie making an ace on 13.  Eel edged one of our finest SENORS Marti-gras on 18.  The final was an exciting one – Eel holding a lead after 18 – but this is Yorkie season…..York started to York – Putts started to DROP….and Yorkie was able to pull ahead and ultimately clinch his 16th club champ (13 as CD, 3 as York) and win his 4th career Kingdom MAJ.

For the second straight year – we had our Commisioner’s Kup come down to the wire.  Going into Saturday Singles – “EELites were up 7 to 5 on Prince’s Parties”.  It wasn’t quite “Battle of Brookline” or “Miracle at Medinah” typa comeback – but it was close.  For the first time ever, a team came from behind on Saturday to take the CK.  Prince’s parties earned 8 out of a possible 12 to win the CK 13-11.  WOW.

The history standings were dominated by 3 players all year.  Eel, Mole, and Prince.  Eel took a commanding lead into the summer and actually had 2 separate chances to tie Eags all time record of +20, but couldn’t quite get there.  Into the fall, he came back to the pack to make the finish exciting.  Going into the last weekend, all 3 important races were still in doubt.  In the end – Eel edged Prince for 1st, Mole edged Moose for 3rd, and paca edged a few animals for 6th.

We’ve had our first leg of the 2018 playoffs already.  Hammer beat out 9 other guys to win the PTP.  Big par after having to chip out on 15 was the difference.  Our PLAYIN came down to the wire and even needed a 19th hole.  In the end – Ram was able to edge Alpaca.

Our 8th FINAL has been pushed to March 23rd (perhaps new tradition?????), due to mother Naitch. We have 4 very familiar faces in it.  Will it be EEL, PRINCE, MOLE or RAM? Cant wait to find out!!!

Last but not least. I did want to mention one more thing.  I don’t usually mention “non-kingdom” events, even though we have so many stud golfers that compete, play well and even win NKE’s.   But the VEEJ hosted the Canadian Mid-Am this year and BOY, did our studs play well.  Ram, Prince, Bobcat, York, Eagle, and Condo all finished inside the top 20. Amazing!  Ram lead the way and had a real chance to win –  if it weren’t for “Wildcat” coming out of nowhere in the final round.  Real awesome to watch.  And just goes to show how lucky we are in the Kingdom to be able to compete week in and week out with some of the best amateur golfers in the country at one of the best courses in the country.

Time to get to the final 2018 stats and last 9 months of ‘caps.  Grab a fresh BRONSON (preferably THE GOOD STUFF).  Here we go:
